Washington Zoo Celebrates Giant Panda Bao Li’s Fifth Birthday

The Smithsonian’s National Zoo in Washington, D.C. celebrated the fifth birthday of giant panda Bao Li with a special ice cake made from diluted pineapple juice, carrots, sweet potatoes and blueberries. On August 4, visitors gathered at the Giant Panda Habitat to watch the birthday celebration. Bao Li was born in Sichuan, China, on August 4, 2021, and arrived in Washington together with female panda Qing Bao in October 2024. The two giant pandas are part of the long-standing conservation partnership between China and the United States and have quickly become one of the zoo’s most popular attractions.
